POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMICS
Job Description:
We are inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in Computational Fluid Dynamics with Texas A&M Engineering, College Station, Texas. The start date is immediate. The researcher will perform specialized post-doctoral work in the planning, conducting, and/or supervision of original research. The researcher will work with Dr. Chukwuzubelu Ufodike on projects related to developing multi-physics-based models, and numerical simulations, for manufacturing processes and complex devices and motors. The goal is to develop a deeper understanding of heat and mass transfer, and melt flow in advanced manufacturing processes, and to simulate complex devices and materials. Knowledge of simulation packages like ANSYS Fluent and Ansys Maxwell is a must. Willingness to learn new simulation packages in Flow 3D and OpenFoam is also crucial. Validation will be done using experimental tools, hence, some experience with experimental work is also desired. Coding experience for image processing is a plus. The candidate is expected to contribute to supervising graduate and undergraduate students, publishing in high-quality/high-impact journals, and facilitating grant writing.
The contract is for a minimum period of one year, and it is highly desirable that the candidate can participate for at least two years.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge in one or more of the following subject areas: Multi-physics modeling, structures, system dynamics, experimental design and testing, Electric Motors, hydro- (or aero-) dynamics, multidisciplinary design optimization, and control.
Knowledge/experience in computational methods: Computational fluid dynamics (CFD), Computational structural dynamics (CSD), Optimization methods, and Computer aided design (CAD) codes.
Experience or basic knowledge in one or more of the following codes/methods: Siemens NX or similar CAE software, OpenFOAM, OpenFAST, OpenMDAO, AeroDyn, HydroDyn, interFOAM, waves2Foam.
Responsibilities:
- To conduct individual and collaborative research projects under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
- To understand and convey material of a specialist or highly technical nature through presentations and discussions within the research group, leading to the presentation of research papers in conferences and publications.
- To present work at seminars, both internally and externally, and at international conferences.
- To publish high-quality outputs, including papers for submission to peer-reviewed journals and open-access electronic archives
- To prepare and deliver presentations on research outputs/activities to audiences which may include: research sponsors, and academic and non-academic audiences.
- To assist with the development of research objectives and proposals.
- To work with the Principal Investigator and other colleagues in the research group, as appropriate, to identify areas for research, develop new research methods, and extend the research portfolio.
- To deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines by discussing with the Principal Investigator and offering creative or innovative solutions.
- To liaise with research colleagues and make internal and external contacts to develop knowledge and understanding to form relationships for future research collaboration.
- To plan and manage own research activity, and research resources in collaboration with others and contribute to the planning of research projects.
- To contribute to fostering a collegial and respectful working environment that is inclusive and welcoming and where everyone is treated fairly with dignity and respect.
The candidate must demonstrate excellent communication skills enthusiasm, and the ability to work independently. The candidate is expected to conduct research that can be published in top Manufacturing, Materials, Industrial Engineering, Thermofluid, or related domain, and facilitate grant writing.

- Doctorate Degree
Preferred Education:
- Doctoral Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related area.
Preferred Qualifications:
- We seek candidates with a strong background in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Numerical and Analytical Modelling, Optimization, Material Processing (Polymers and Biomaterials), and strong programming skills.
